Square vestment item in embroidered velvet, probably a chalice veil.

Black velvet background. In the center, a purple Latin cross, encircled by a crown of thorns, stands out against a scattering of flowers and foliage. Scrollwork also embroidered in the corners.

The border, also purple, is pleated in a ruff style and decorated with decorative knots at the four corners.

The threads are visible on the reverse side, due to a missing or unfinished silk lining.

Exceptionally well-preserved work, kept in a cupboard, having retained all the freshness of its original colors.

Format: 48 x 47 cm.
