Antique "Viramoscas" Mesh Fly Net for Oxen – Folk Art from Chalosse (Landes)

An antique ox fly net, known as "viramoscas" or "mosquèr" in Gascon, is a traditional accessory essential for protecting working oxen.

Originating from the Chalosse region in the Landes, this authentic piece of folk art is entirely handmade with natural fiber mesh.

The net features a geometric pattern of crossed red and blue-grey lines forming diamonds. The upper jute border also has a red and blue band. Two vertical slits or openings are designed for attaching it under the wooden yoke, while the lower part ends in long, flexible fringes that act as a fly swatter.

This piece, directly linked to the agricultural history of the Landes, is preserved in its original used condition, with a beautiful natural aged patina on its fibers and normal signs of age.
